Basena makes a return to the club he once served both as a player and coach, bringing with him a wealth of experience to steer the 17-time champions in a new technical direction.
The seasoned tactician has held various coaching roles across the region, including at Sunrise FC (Rwanda), URA FC, Simba SC, KCCA FC, UPDF FC, and Tanzania’s Ihefu SC. On the national level, he was assistant coach of the Uganda Cranes during Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic’s tenure.
The restructuring at Villa Park also sees other notable appointments. Former Villa midfielder Dan Mubiru has been named Team Manager, while Hakim Ssenkumba takes charge of the club’s youth development program as the Youth Team Coach.
Additionally, Sam Mujabi Kawalya replaces Yusuf Ssenyonjo as the new Goalkeeping Coach.
These appointments come under the leadership of current head coach Zeljko Kovacevic, the Serbian tactician who replaced Morley Byekwaso following SC Villa’s underwhelming 2024/25 season.
