SC Villa reopens coach hunt after late Milincic deal collapse

SC Villa have officially restarted their search for a new head coach, after failing to finalize terms with Serbian Nemanja Milincic, just days after he was unveiled by the club.

In a statement released on Wednesday, June 25, the record Uganda Premier League champions announced the abrupt end to their engagement with Milincic, citing unforeseen issues that emerged during the final stages of contract negotiations.

The club revealed that despite having “an agreement in principle” and beginning initial collaboration, both parties mutually agreed to part ways after “careful consideration”, with the unresolved matters reportedly touching the core values of the club.

“This is a value that cannot be compromised at any cost. The club is deliberate in laying a strong foundation to become one of the great clubs and a leading talent conveyor belt on the continent,” read part of the statement.

The dramatic U-turn comes as a surprise, especially after Milincic had already publicly shared his vision for Villa’s pre-season and competitive aspirations. The UEFA Pro License holder boasts an impressive CV, including roles at Crvena Zvezda, AEK Athens, Al Ettifaq, and the Bulgarian national team.

SC Villa president Hajji Omar Ahmed Mandela took full responsibility for the decision to terminate their collaboration, emphasizing the club’s commitment to its values and long-term vision.

The club also expressed its appreciation for Milincic’s professionalism and reiterated that the search for a new head coach is back underway.
