Scotland’s Hibernian snatch up Togo forward Thibault Klidjé

The Togo national team has no shortage of talented strikers and Thibault Klidjé is the latest to earn a big move after his transfer to Scottish Premiership side Hibernian was completed on Sunday.

Klidjé joins the Edinburgh club for a reported fee of just over €1 million following a breakout 2024-25 campaign with Swiss Super League side FC Luzern. The 24-year-old produced 12 goals and 3 assists in 39 games for Luzern this past season as the club finished in 6th place on the Swiss top flight table.

“We got Thibault three years ago during an injury, and he’s developed very well since then. Especially in the last season, he showed strong performances, which of course did not go unnoticed. The switch was Thibault’s explicit wish and his contract would have expired in a year. We were able to find a good solution that fits all parties and we will enable him to take this step,” said Luzern executive Remo Meyer following the completion of the transfer.

After making his first move to Europe with a transfer to French club Girondins de Bordeaux in 2020, Klidjé was limited to time with the club’s reserve team before leaving in 2022 after Bordeaux experienced severe financial issues. After having a rotation role in his first couple of seasons with Luzern, Klidjé became a key player and consistent scorer this past season.

Klidjé will have the opportunity to help Hibernian qualify for the league phase of the UEFA Europa League. Hibs finished 3rd in the Scottish top flight behind Glaswegian giants Celtic and Rangers and expectations will be high for Klidjé, who could prove to be the explosive goal scorer the club has been searching for.

Highly regarded in Togolese football from a young age, Klidjé has two goals in eighteen appearances with the Togo national team. He played in every match of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign and scored recently in March during Togo’s 2-2 draw with Mauritania in 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying.
