Scottland FC, Durban City FC seal US1.5m deal

Zimbabwe champions Scottland FC and South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Durban City have signed a five-year partnership worth US$1.5million.

Briefing the media in Harare on Monday, City Chief Executive Officer Younus Kadodia and his Scottland FC counterpart Tonderai Sakupwanya described the deal as a regional football bridge between South Africa and Zimbabwe, covering player development, exchange visits, youth tournaments and commercial growth.

Sakupwanya said: “This is a landmark moment for Southern African football. This is more than a partnership. It is a regional football bridge between Zimbabwe and South Africa. Our shared goal is to develop world-class players and institutions. We are building a pipeline from local talent to global opportunities. The partnership represents a strategic football deal.”

He said the agreement covers technical support, youth development, commercial growth, joint talent hubs in Zimbabwe and annual youth tournaments for the age brackets of under-15, 17 and 19.

“At Scotland, we stand to benefit from such a partnership. We will have the annual Zimbabwe-South Africa series. I can foresee the fan-base growing as we have a number of Zimbabweans living in South Africa, so we will see natural growth. This partnership sets a new benchmark for Southern Africa club collaboration. Football unites nations and today, we are making it real,”’ Sakupwanya added.

What Scottland FC and Durban City FC deal entails

Taking his turn, Kadodia described the partnership as historic, calling for both parties to ensure its full implementation for their mutual benefit.

“Today marks a very historic day for both Durban City FC and Scotland FC. As football clubs, we share the same vision for growth and success both and on and off the pitch. Aligning with this mandate, my colleague mentioned the key pillars of this collaboration, and both clubs will now go forward to try and ensure that we achieve this in the coming years,” he said.

Scottland won the Castle Lager PSL in their debut season in the top-flight league of Zimbabwe in 2025. On the other hand, City emerged from what used to be called Maritzburg United.
