Sekhukhune United have seen their impressive April form rewarded with two accolades in the Betway Premiership monthly awards, while a standout Kaizer Chiefs player also earned recognition.
Babina Noko’s head coach, Eric Tinkler, and midfielder Keletso Makgalwa bagged the Betway Premiership Coach and Player of the Month awards, respectively. Meanwhile, Chiefs' Glody Lilepo clinched the Goal of the Month prize.
Under the tutelage of Tinkler, Sekhukhune enjoyed an unbeaten run in April, sealing crucial victories over Cape Town City FC, Polokwane City FC, and Orlando Pirates, along with a draw against TS Galaxy. This remarkable run saw them climb into the top three of the Betway Premiership standings.
Adding to Sekhukhune's honours, Makgalwa played a pivotal role in their success throughout the month. The attacking midfielder featured in three of their April fixtures, contributing a vital goal and an assist, highlighting his attacking flair and creative influence on the team.
Makgalwa's stellar and consistent displays throughout April saw him edge out his Sekhukhune United teammate, goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner, and Stellenbosch FC's influential midfielder, Sanele Barns, for the Player of the Month accolade.
Meanwhile, Glody Lilepo secured the Betway Premiership Goal of the Month award for his sensational solo effort against Marumo Gallants on April 26th. The Congolese forward's moment of magic involved a mesmerising dribble past three defenders before he unleashed an unstoppable shot that found the top corner of the net.
Lilepo's breathtaking strike proved superior to TS Galaxy's Kamogelo Sebelebele's impressive goal against Magesi FC and Thulani Gumede's stylish curling shot for Cape Town City.
“A panel of PSL-accredited football journalists and broadcasters from across South Africa acknowledged the trio's exceptional performances throughout April. The judging process, conducted on Tuesday, 13 May, was overseen by the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and Premiership's sponsors, Betway,” reads the league’s statement.”
