Semenyo says Man City mindset on different level after Leeds win

Ghana international Antoine Semenyo praised Manchester City’s mindset after they held on to secure a vital 1-0 victory against Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday.

It was a hard-fought victory against a determined and energetic Leeds side who spurned a number of guilt-edged chances in the first period. Semenyo struck two minutes into first-half added time after a superb move involving Rayan Ait-Nouri and Rayan Cherki.

The win kept Man City hard on the heels of leaders Arsenal, who play Chelsea on Sunday.

‘Everyone’s just major focused’

“Yeah, I’ve definitely seen [a difference in mentality],” Semenyo said as quoted by Man City website after the game.

“It starts in training every day. Little habits – passing drills, possession. It’s the attention to detail, everyone’s focused. It’s not lacking. When you do that in training it follows into games and everyone just wants to win.

“Everyone’s just major focused, and that shift in mentality is so crazy. Little things and making sure you’re in tip-top shape.”

Semenyo explains guitar celebration after goal

After scoring the only goal of the game, Semenyo pulled out an interesting celebration as he performed the air guitar and explained the reason why he chose it.

“A few friends said I should do something funny, so it’s the first thing that came up in my head,” he added. “Nice guitar, good performance, crowd loved it and that’s it.”

The crucial win over Leeds United saw Semenyo;s latest goal added to an impressive tally (15 in 41 appearances).

The match also carried special significance for Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush, who started the game and featured until the 68th minute before being replaced by Brazilian winger Savinho.

It marked Marmoush’s 50th appearance for City across all competitions, a milestone made possible in part due to the continued injury absence of Norwegian striker Erling Haaland.
