Senegal replaces Congo for CECAFA Four Nations tournament in Arusha

The Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) has confirmed that Senegal will participate in the upcoming Four Nations Tournament set to take place in Arusha, Tanzania later this month.

Senegal joins the competition as a late replacement for Congo Brazzaville, who pulled out of the tournament due to logistical complications.

“We are happy to announce that Senegal have accepted to take part in the Tournament after Congo Brazzaville communicated that they had encountered some logistical challenges and could not make the trip as earlier planned,” confirmed CECAFA Executive Director, Auka Gecheo.

Slated for July 21-27, 2025, at Karatu Stadium in Arusha, the tournament will be contested in a round-robin format by four national teams: Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and now Senegal. Each nation will field a squad comprised solely of home-based players, in line with preparations for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which will be co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania from August 2 to 30.

The action will kick off on July 21 with a heavyweight East African clash between Kenya’s Harambee Stars and Uganda Cranes. On the same day, hosts Tanzania will square off with newcomers Senegal in what promises to be a riveting doubleheader.

Matchday two on July 24 will see Senegal return to face Uganda in the early kick-off, before the hosts lock horns with regional rivals Kenya later that afternoon.

The final round of matches on July 27 could prove decisive, with Kenya facing off against Senegal, while Uganda take on Tanzania in what might be a virtual final depending on the earlier results.
