Senegal youngster Mikayil Faye joins Cremonese on loan from Rennes

Italian Serie A club, Cremonese have announced the loan signing of Senegal centre-back Mikayil Faye from Rennes for the ongoing season.

The 21-year-old’s switch to the Gray and Reds includes an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season.

Faye struggled to command a regular shirt at Rennes and has been sent on loan after the club’s hierarchy decided to trim down their squad.

The former Barcelona youth graduate made a paltry 11 appearances for Rennes last season in Ligue 1. His playing time reduced drastically following the arrival of Anthony Rouault and Lilian Brassier.

The Senegal international made a cameo appearance, playing seven minutes off the bench during Sunday’s 1-1 draw between Angers and Rennes.

In 2023 he joined Barcelona Atletic after his formative years at Senegal’s Diambars. He signed a deal until June 2027 but he will later be sold to Rennes in 2024 in a four year deal. He has played for Senegal U-17.
