Sergen Yalçın reacts to Ndidi performance in Beşiktaş victory

Sergen Yalçın, the head coach of Beşiktaş J.K., has praised the performance of Nigeria midfielder Wilfred Ndidi following the team’s emphatic 4–0 victory against Göztepe S.K. in the Turkish Super Lig on Sunday.

Following the recent funeral of his father in Nigeria, the Super Eagles captain returned to the starting lineup for Beşiktaş and made an immediate impact. He opened the scoring just nine minutes into the match, handing his side an early advantage with his second league goal since joining the Istanbul outfit.

While he was cautioned with a yellow card six minutes later, Ndidi delivered a dominant all-around performance and was deservedly named Man of the Match.

Yalçın’s reaction to Ndidi’s performance

Speaking to the press after the victory, Yalçın described the vice-captain’s contribution as “perfect.”

“There’s something you probably didn’t notice today. Ndidi played perfectly.

Ndidi played one of the best games we’ve ever had. When our players fight and play like this, even if we lose the match, it won’t be a problem for us. We can lose. But when we fight like this, we lose. We tell him. It’s easy to tell him.

But losing without doing anything is the worst thing for us. That’s why our players should fight like this. We lose.

I’ll take responsibility. I’ll tell him. It’s not a problem for us.”

The importance of the win

The victory means Beşiktaş has solidified its position in 4th place in the Super Lig table with 43 points.

This result narrows the gap on the top three and keeps the club firmly in the race for European qualification.

Wilfred Ndidi produced a commanding midfield display as Beşiktaş J.K. defeated Göztepe S.K. 4–0 in the Turkish Süper Lig on Sunday, earning glowing praise from head coach Sergen Yalçın.

The Nigerian international, returning to action after attending his father’s funeral in Nigeria, made an immediate impact. Just nine minutes into the match, Ndidi opened the scoring with a composed finish, marking his second league goal since joining the Istanbul giants.

The early breakthrough set the tone for what would become one of Beşiktaş’ most complete performances of the season.

Ndidi’s Immediate Impact in the Süper Lig

Despite receiving a yellow card six minutes after scoring, Ndidi never lost focus. His performance combined defensive steel with intelligent distribution, allowing Beşiktaş to dominate midfield proceedings.

Operating as a deep-lying anchor, he broke up opposition attacks, intercepted passing lanes, and transitioned play effectively. His reading of the game prevented Göztepe from building sustained pressure.

According to the official Süper Lig standings published by the Turkish Football Federation (https://www.tff.org/default.aspx?pageID=198), the victory strengthens Beşiktaş’ position in fourth place with 43 points.
