Sergio Conceicao turns down offer to coach Al Ahly

Former AC Milan manager Sergio Conceicao has declined an offer to take charge of Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

According to the club’s official channel, the officials reached out to the Portuguese coach to discuss the possibility of him leading the team. However, Conceicao informed the board that he wishes to continue his career in Europe, ruling himself out of the role.

Conceicao boasts a very good coaching resume across Europe. Over the years, he has taken charge of several prominent clubs including AC Milan in Italy, FC Porto and SC Braga in Portugal and French side Nantes.

The Red Devils are still on the lookout for a permanent successor to Spanish manager Jose Riveiro, who departed after a disappointing stint. Former defender Emad El-Nahhas has been appointed as interim head coach until a foreign manager is confirmed.

Riveiro’s time at Al Ahly proved disappointing. Across seven matches in both the Nile Egyptian League and the FIFA Club World Cup, his side registered just one win, alongside two defeats and four draws. Domestically, the team managed only one victory in four league games, leaving them 13th in the table — far below the club’s expectations.
