Serhou Guirassy drops penalty role for Dortmund after latest miss

Guinea international Serhou Guirassy has confirmed he will not take any penalty after he missed for Borussia Dortmund in their thrilling 3-2 Bundesliga win against 1. FC Heidenheim at Signal Iduna Park on Sunday.

Guirassy scored twice in three second-half minutes – and later missed a penalty – as Dortmund moved to within six points of leaders Bayern Munich.

Unbeaten in their last 12 Bundesliga encounters prior to Matchday 20, Dortmund came into Sunday’s clash determined to capitalise on Bayern’s failure to beat Hamburg at the Volksparkstadion on Saturday.

In the 68th minute, Brandt’s cross struck Niklas Dorsch’s hand in the penalty area and, after a brief VAR check, the hosts were awarded a spot-kick. Guirassy stepped up confidently to send his penalty into the top corner, despite Ramaj getting a hand to the ball.

‘But that’s it for me on penalties’

Speaking after the game, Guirassy told Dortmund website: “Sometimes I score, sometimes I don’t. Last year, I scored, I don’t know, maybe 45 goals. This season is a little more difficult. That’s football.

“I play to have fun. And for me, it was a crazy game because it was like this on one hand (scoring two goals) – and on the other hand like that (missing a penalty). But we won again, and that is the most important thing. But that’s it for me on penalties for the time being.”

Guirassy had by far the most shots of all players (seven) and also contested the most duels (29). He celebrated his seventh and eighth goals of the season and is now out on his own as top scorer for the Black & Yellows (Maximilian Beier follows in second place with six goals).

He bagged his second brace of the Bundesliga season, having previously managed the feat on Matchday two in the 3-0 home win against Union Berlin.

In five games against Heidenheim, he has found the back of the net five times.
