Tchatchoua: Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Facebook page
Wolverhampton Wanderers’ new signing Jackson Tchatchoua believes the Serie A prepared him for a career in the Premier League.
The Cameroonian defender spoke about what he expects from England after sealing a move to the Molineux on Tuesday.
Tchatchoua told Wolves media that the two years he spent at Hellas Verona in Italy improved his defensive abilities which are key to a successful career in the Premier League.
“I learned a lot on the defensive phase, the tactics, I have learned a lot about them,” he said. “In Italy you have a lot of big teams, a lot of big matches, and I think in England it’s the same. We have a lot of good teams there.
“In Italy, you have a lot of exertions, because every match is difficult. I think it’s a good step before the Premier League, being focused on this.”
The 23-year-old told Wolves website that he had always dreamt about playing in the Premier League.
“I feel good. I feel happy to be here and I’m excited. I spoke a little bit with the coach, but I’ll speak more. The Premier League is one of my dreams and it’s one step that I want to do in my life, and also the history of the club, the stadium, the fans, this convinced me,” he said.
Tchatchoua carved out a reputation as one of the fastest defenders in Serie A, clocking 36.3km/h last season. He, therefore, has moved to the right place in the Premier League where physicality and speed are a must-have.
The 23-year-old also proved adept on the opposite side of the pitch, registering two goals and three assists last season, the latest being on his last Serie A appearance against Empoli in May.
He was recognised as the fastest player in Serie A last season.Tchatchoua launched his professional football career with Charleroi in Belgium and made his debut in 2021.
The young wingback debuted for Cameroon in a World Cup qualifier against Cape Verde in June 2024.
The Cameroonian left Verona after making 43 appearances. Tchatchoua has now joined other Africans at the Molineux such as Zimbabwean Marshall Munetsi.
