Spanish outfit Sevilla have issued a statement to confirm the exit of Nigeria forward Kelechi Iheanacho.
“An agreement has been reached with Kelechi Iheanacho to rescind his contract,” read part of the statement, adding: “Best of luck for the future, Senior Man.”
Iheanacho’s time at Sevilla has been underwhelming since his arrival as a free agent last summer. After failing to consistently impress in the first half of the season, where he scored twice against lower league opposition in the Copa del Rey but failed to find the net in nine league appearances, he was loaned to English Championship side Middlesbrough in January.
His loan spell saw him register one goal and two assists in 15 league outings, a performance that did not solidify his place in the plans of Sevilla’s new coach Matías Almeyda.
Turkish media recently reported that Besiktas and Samsunspor are interested in the forward, who joined Sevilla last season as a free agent and has a contract until 2027. Other reports have linked Iheanacho with a move to Scottish giants Celtic, where he will link up with former coach at Leicester City Brendan Rodgers.
Mexican club Pumas has also expressed interest in Iheanacho as reported last week. However, for a deal to materialise, Pumas would first need to free up a place in their squad to accomodate a foreign player signing.
