Muhammad Shaban leaves Ethiopian Coffee after contract termination

Ethiopian Premier League side Ethiopian Coffee has mutually agreed to terminate Uganda striker Muhammad Shaban’s contract.

The Addis Ababa-based side opted to cancel Shaban’s stay six months before the end of his contract.

Shaban signed for the Browns in September 2025 after a stint in Libya with Al Anwar. Prior to his move to Coffee, Shaban was close to joining Kenyan side Gor Mahia FC. The 28-year-old forward had an unsuccessful spell in Ethiopia as he struggled to score goals and later fell down the pecking order.

Shaban played only ten league games and failed to register a single goal or assist during his stay. Ethiopian Coffee warned Shaban over poor performance on December 26 and fined him two weeks’ salary.

Following the departure of head coach Abiy Kassahun, Shaban saw his playing time limited. Ethiopian Coffee, in a short statement, revealed that the Ugandan international left the club by mutual consent. The club wished Shaban greener pastures in his future career. The Browns have also terminated the contract of Kirubel Desalegn.

Shaban started his career in his native Uganda with Onduparaka. He has played for KCCA, Vipers, and Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca. He has been a Ugandan international since 2016 but missed out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
