Former England forward Alan Shearer believes Egypt international Mohamed Salah is struggling with lack of confidence for Liverpool in the Premier League.
The 33-year-old was not in his usual shape for the Reds as they suffered a 2-1 defeat against Crystal Palace. This was Liverpool’s first defeat of the season.
“They’re still trying to work out Wirtz because they left Gakpo out, put Wirtz on the left, Salah on the right and Isak down the middle and it still didn’t look right,” said Shearer as quoted by Tribuna.com.
“Salah certainly doesn’t look confident and not the Salah we are used to yet, it’ll change and it’s a matter of time but they’re all trying to figure out how to get the best out of each other.
“They haven’t played well yet, they’ve scored all those late goals and again, they got a late goal but it was reversed.”
Despite producing one of the greatest individual seasons in English football history during the 2024-25 campaign to help fire Arne Slot’s team to Premier League glory, the Egyptian captain recently finished fourth in the Ballon d’Or voting.
He was the highest finisher among the four Liverpool players, who had been named on the 30-man shortlist for the prestigious prize.
Last season, Salah topped the charts for both goals scored (29) and assists provided (18) in the division, being named its Player of the Season and collecting the FWA Footballer of the Year and PFA Players’ Player of the Year honours.
