Egypt were forced to finish the match with ten men after Hamdi Fathi was sent off in the 84th minute, adding late pressure from the hosts.
The Pharaohs came close to breaking the deadlock in the 29th minute when Omar Marmoush unleashed a strike that rattled the right post, marking Egypt’s most dangerous chance of the first half, which ended goalless.
In the second half, goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir emerged as the standout performer, making three crucial one-on-one saves. He denied Fermín López in the 53rd minute, before producing another brilliant stop against Pedri nearly two minutes later.
The third save came in the 57th minute when Shobeir stopped another shot from Pedri in one-on-one situation.
Spain nearly snatched victory in the 86th minute, but the crossbar denied Alejandro Grimaldo, as Egypt held firm defensively in the closing stages.
The result follows Egypt’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Saudi Arabia national football team in their previous friendly, showing a strong run of form before the 2026 World Cup.
Looking ahead, Egypt have been drawn in Group G of the upcoming FIFA World Cup alongside Iran national football team, Belgium national football team, and New Zealand national football team.
Meanwhile, Spain will compete in Group H, where they face Cape Verde national football team, Saudi Arabia national football team, and Uruguay national football team.
