The former East End Lions star’s latest move was confirmed by his new club on Thursday. Koroma joins from Qatar Stars League club Al Shahaniya for an undisclosed fee.
The 25-year-old is expected to be an immediate contributor for Baniyas after an awful start to the 2025-26 UAE Pro League season for the club based in Abu Dhabi. Baniyas was eliminated from the League Cup by fellow top flight side Khorfakkan while losing their opening five matches in the league campaign, conceding nine goals while failing to score a single goal.
Koroma joins a club that is heavily invested in African talent. Mali international Youssoufou Niakaté, former Stellenbosch FC star defender Olivier Touré and Cameroonian striker Leonel Wamba are on the team as well as former Etoile du Sahel midfielder Oussama Abid.
Baniyas will return to action after the international window on October 18 when they travel to face Al Ain.
Sierra Leone international Koroma, who was involved in both of the Leone Stars’ 2026 World Cup qualifying matches in September, also scored in the 2-0 victory over Ethiopia on September 9. He has been called in for Sierra Leone’s crucial upcoming games in October against Burkina Faso at home on October 8 and the October 12 clash against Djibouti which will take place in Casablanca, Morocco.
Sierra Leone are out of the running to win Group A but can move level with Burkina Faso on points and remain in contention for the group runner-up position if they defeat the Stallions in Monrovia, Liberia. Even if they defeat Burkina Faso, the Leone Stars do need to score as many goals as possible considering Burkina Faso’s substantial edge when it comes to goal difference or they will need to hope that already eliminated Ethiopia is able to avoid losing in Ouagadougou on the final matchday.
