Barnet manager Dean Brennan has expressed delight over the contract extension of former Sierra Leone national team winger Idris Kanu.

Kanu, 25, played a massive role for the Bees last season, making 38 appearances in the Vanarama National League and scoring two goals in the process.

Having joined the club back in September 2022 from Peterborough United, Idris became a regular and key player in Manager Dean Brennan’s side. In total he has made 117 appearances for Barnet, scoring 18 goals with 9 assists.

Speaking on Kanu's new contract, Dean Brennan said, “Idris has been a special player for the club over the last 2 years and has played a massive part in our success. He’s a huge personality within the group so we’re delighted he’s committed his future to the football club.”

He was a member of the Sierra Leone squad that played at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon where the Leone Stars failed to advance from Group E even though he was not named in matchday squads. The new deal is subject to the usual regulatory processes.

He started off at Aldershot Town through to Peterborough United before loan spells at Port Vale, Boreham Wood and Northampton Town before settling at Barnet.
