Silver Strikers FC coach Peter Mgangira has apologized to his team’s faithful after losing 4-3 on post-match penalties to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets in the Airtel Top 8 final on Sunday.
In a post-match interview, the Bankers’ mentor insisted that there was nothing he could do to plan for post-match penalties which he described as a gamble.
“Sorry for the loss, but that is how football is…we lost on penalties which are like a gamble,” Mgangira said.
The coach added that he was sad but still proud of his players for their effort at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
“It was a good game. I think the people that came to watch the game are happy, but I am not happy that we lost. I am, nonetheless, proud of my boys. They put up a good fight,” he explained.
“We had a very good game especially in the second half. We had a few chances which could have buried the game.”
Silver have now lost three finals of the same cup to Bullets, including last year when Mgangira was a deputy to coach Peter Mponda who is now in charge of Bullets.
Mponda’s exit at Silver where Mgangira took over the mantle has seen the Reserve Bank of Malawi-sponsored team starting the season on a low, their prospects of winning silverware let alone defending the TNM Super League title getting dimmer.
