Silver Strikers vow to bounce back after CAF Champions League exit

Silver Strikers coach Etson Kadenge has vowed to bounce back in next year’s CAF Champions League.

The Malawian champions bowed out of this year’s edition of the continental league after losing 2-1 on aggregate to Young Africans (Yanga) in the second preliminary round.

The TNM Super League holders won 1-0 at home last week, but found the going tough in Dar es Salaam where they lost 2-0 to miss qualification to the group stage.

What Silver Strikers coach Mwafulirwa said?

In a post-match interview, Mwafulirwa attributed the defeat at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium as having been a result of conceding too early and too cheaply.

“[It was] an excellent game away from home. We have had a good game here,” the coach told Strikers media.

“We conceded two goals in the first half and that was the downside of the game. In the second half, the boys picked up the pieces and played a good game that just lacked some spark. However, lessons have been learned.

“The boys played well, the technical team was on point and the fans supported us on this journey. It was a good one. We look forward to coming again in this competition next year.”

The delegation for Silver is expected to return home from Tanzania on Tuesday to focus on their Super League title defence and cup assignments.
