CAFCL: Silver Strikers should forget Yanga’s result – Mgangira

Silver Strikers head coach Peter Mgangira has warned his wards against dwelling much on their famous 1-0 CAF Champions League victory over Young Africans Sports Club (Yanga SC) over the weekend.

The trainer for the TNM Super League defending champions made the call ahead of Tuesday’s TNM Super League meeting with fellow Lilongwe opponents Creck Sporting Club FC.

With the Bankers, as Strikers are called, competing on all fronts Mgangira called for more focus and respect of all opponents irrespective of the competition at hand.

The Lilongwe giants are having to split their attention among assignments for the Champions League, Super League title defence and cup competitions for the FDH Cup.

Why Silver Strikers coach fears victory over Yanga could trigger complacency

However, it is last Saturday’s stunning victory over Yanga that Mgangira fears could get into his charges’ head and lead to complacency when facing Creck.

“The boys look good. We have had a recovery session on Sunday, and we are trying our very best to manage them both physically and psychologically. We are doing our best, as we have just won the first leg, we have a lot to play for; therefore, we need to be professional,” the coach said.

“Playing on Tuesday will require us to forget about the result on Saturday. We have a good squad that we can alternate and see how best we can get a good result.”

Mgangira, who is deputized by Etson Kadenge Mwafulirwa, explained what he knows about Creck and what it would take to overcome them.

“We are playing a motivated team that is good at getting results. Therefore, we also need to be at our best on Tuesday, as a win will give us a lot of confidence. We are the defending champions, and we need to win this match so that we can make the dream of defending the championship a reality,” Mgangira said.

Strikers lie in fourth position with 36 points from 18 games on the 16-member log table, 13 points behind leaders FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, who have played two games more than the Bankers.

In other games scheduled for Tuesday, Bullets welcome MAFCO FC at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre while second-placed Mighty Wanderers date tricky Blue Eagles in Lilongwe.
