Tanzania Mainland Premier League giants Simba SC have suffered a huge blow following the exit of defender and captain Mohamed Hussein ahead of the new season.
Hussein confirmed his departure via a heartfelt message on his Instagram page, marking the end of his 11- year spell with the club. His decision to quit the Msimbazi Reds comes after the release of seven players – Deborah Fernandez, Augustine Okejapha, Kelvin Kijili, Hussein Kazi, Fabrice Ngoma, Valentino Norma and veteran goalkeeper Aishi Manula.
“Nearly 11 years of joy, sorrow, celebration, applause, cheers and heartbreak in the jungle. With great loyalty, professionalism and hard work to defend the club’s badge – that was my foundation and goal. As the elders say, everything with a beginning must have an end and today I say goodbye officially,” said Hussein.
“I especially thank the fans for being with me all this time. As you have loved me, I have loved you too and I believe you will continue to support me.”
His exit comes after Simba ended last season without silverware, with rivals Young Africans claiming the domestic double.
