After qualifying for the final of the CAF Confederation Cup, Simba SC head coach Fadlu Davids has revealed the club’s mission to dominate the CAF Champions League from next season.
The Msimbazi wrote history after the stormed the final of the inter-club competition following a 1-0 aggregate win against Stellenbosch. Simba had secured a 1-0 advantage from the first leg semi-final clash before they travelled to South Africa where managed to restrict the Stellies to a 0-0 draw in the return leg.
“We’re committed to Simba. We started this project, and we’re only eight or nine months into it,” said Davids as quoted by FARPost. “Our objective as a club is to dominate the Champions League. We’re on course to qualify for the [CAF] Champions League. That is the vision of our president [Mohammed Dewji], very similar to what Dr Patrice Motsepe did when he bought Sundowns. Our president has huge ambitions to dominate Africa.
“We’re only baby steps into the project. So, there’s still a lot to come, and with our young squad, we are not yet at our full potential. They have gained a lot of experience of getting this far in this competition [final of the Confed Cup]. But next season, we have to strengthen [the team] and be ready for a higher level that is Champions League football.”
Davids, who succeeded Abdelhak Benchikha at the Tanzanian giants, will be hoping to lift the Confederation as they face Moroccan club RS Berkane in the final.
