Tanzania Mainland Premier League side Singida Black Stars have appointed former Young Africans coach Miguel Gamondi ahead of the new season.
The 61-year-old Argentinian has signed a one-year deal after leaving Al Nasr of Libya, where he had joined in February but saw his contract terminated after just five matches.
“We are happy to introduce Miguel Gamondi as the head coach of our team on a one-year contract,“ reads a statement from the club. “Meanwhile, Coach David Ouma and Coach Moussa N’Daw will be assistant coaches.
“These changes to the Technical Bench have been made by the Club Board of Directors ahead of the new competition season 2025/2026.”
Gamondi is not new in Tanzania, having guided Young Africans to the league title in 2023/24 by brushing aside Mtibwa Sugar 3-1.
The win put Young Africans on 71 points with three matches remaining, while Azam FC were second on 60 points and Simba SC third with 57 points. Gamondi also took Young Africans to the quarter-finals of the 2023/24 CAF Champions League, where they lost 3-2 on penalties to Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa.
The arrival of Gamondi means Kenyan coach David Ouma, alongside Moussa N’Daw, who led the team last season, will drop to assistant roles once again.
Born in Olavarría, Gamondi played for local club Ferrocarril Sud. After he retired from playing, Gamondi managed several clubs in Argentina, including Ferro Carril Sud, Racing, El Fortín, San Martín de Tucumán and Racing Club de Avellaneda. In 2000, Gamondi moved to Africa to join Oscar Fulloné as an assistant coach to the Libyan side Al-Ahly.
He also became assistant coach to Fulloné in the Burkina Faso national football team in December 2001. He later became assistant coach at ASEC Mimosas, Wydad Casablanca, Espérance Sportive de Tunis, and Étoile du Sahel.
Singida will represent Tanzania in CAF Confederation Cup in September.
