Former Gor Mahia head coach Sinisa Mihic has come out to explain why he left the Kenyan Premier League champions after only three months in charge.
The record Kenyan champions confirmed in a statement released on Monday that the Croat, whose last assignment was during the 0-0 Premier League stalemate against Murang’a Seal at SportPesa Arena on Sunday, had opted to leave by mutual agreement.
“Gor Mahia wishes to announce that we have mutually agreed to part ways with head coach Sinisa Mihic,” read part of the statement from the club. “We thank coach Mihic for his service and commitment during his time with us and wish him the very best in his future endeavours.”
Mihic has now revealed what pushed him to leave the Gor Mahia job with only three matches remaining to conclude the season.
“I’m done with this club. I feel relieved. I made the decision to leave and informed the management directly. I called a meeting with the club officials, told them I was leaving, and we agreed that I would receive all my dues,” said Mihic as quoted by Nation Sports.
“After the weekend’s draw, I knew I couldn’t continue. The officiating was poor, and we were denied two penalties. That was it for me. I wish the club all the best in the remaining fixtures.
“After we lost to Talanta, the chairman criticised the players harshly. I had to speak up. I’m an open person and felt that the players needed motivation, not blame.”
Mihic arrived at K’Ogalo on February 3, 2025, on a six-month probationary contract, and left the Kenyan giants having managed 15 matches in all competitions, registering eight wins, five draws and suffering two defeats.
