Sipho Chaine, the hero of Orlando Pirates’ recent MTN8 semi-final win, has praised three of his young teammates, highlighting their exceptional performances early in the 2025/26 season.
After saving two penalties to secure a 4-1 shootout victory over Mamelodi Sundowns, the Bafana Bafana goalkeeper singled out Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Lebone Seema, and Relebohile Mofokeng.
“They are amazing,” Chaine told SuperSport TV. “I think throughout my small career, I haven’t seen boys at that age—a 20-year-old doing what they are doing at centre-back [Mbokazi and Seema] up against experienced strikers and players.”
He went on to commend the trio for consistently delivering strong performances. “For them to come out and showcase what they do each week is a marvel to watch. I can just urge them to keep working hard, stay grounded. The best is yet to come,” he added.
Mbokazi, who was introduced to the first team by coach Jose Riveiro last season, has quickly become a standout in the Buccaneers’ defence. He has proven to be a reliable and strong presence, particularly in high-pressure matches. His leadership qualities were also recognised this season when he was named the second vice-captain, stepping up to lead the team during the recent injury absence of captain Nkosinathi Sibisi.
With Sibisi sidelined, Seema has partnered with Mbokazi to form a solid defensive duo. Seema has shown remarkable composure and has risen to the challenge, ensuring the team’s backline remains secure.
Meanwhile, Mofokeng, who is still finding his rhythm this season, has been a key player in the team’s journey to the MTN8 final. Both Mbokazi and Mofokeng have also been included in the preliminary Bafana Bafana squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Nigeria.
