Midfielder Sipho Mbule’s agent has suggested that counselling may have played a role in the build-up to the troubled player’s move to Orlando Pirates, following his well-documented disciplinary issues.

Mike Makaab hinted via his X account, while responding to questions from one of his followers on how the former Mamelodi Sundowns star sealed the move to the Buccaneers.

The agent explained that a lot of things are involved in transfers, including the psychological side of it, to prepare players for the mental demands of modern football.

"We constantly focus our energy on encouraging our clients to approach their careers in a professional manner and often engage experts to assist with counselling, etc on personal issues," he responded.

The former Pirates coach added that such an approach was important as modern footballers are subjected to too many demands on and off the field of play.

Makaab said: "The mental side of sport is becoming increasingly important in a world which has become more fast-paced and demanding on athletes."

The agent also disclosed that other top PSL teams were interested in Mbule at the end of his loan spell with Sekhukhune United. Sundowns decided against renewing the contract of Mbule at the end of his loan period with Eric Tinkler's side.
