The phrase "Musse Magic" is becoming popular for supporters of Calgary club Cavalry FC, who witnessed another star performance from Somalia national team attacker Ali Musse in Saturday's 3-0 Canadian Premier League victory at HFX Wanderers.
Musse scored twice late on to confirm the victory for the CPL's reigning champions, who are finding their form after a poor start to the season. The 29-year-old received a pass from fellow attacking star Tobias Warschewski and Musse's shot just snuck pass HFX goalkeeper Yub-Rayane Yesli in the 83rd minute.
Musse added another less than two minutes later when he finished low from an assist by Shamit Shome. The Mogadishu native now has two goals and an assist in five matches in the early stages of the 2025 season.
The attacker moved to Canada at a young age and spent time at one of the strongest football programs in the American community college system, Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas. After returning to Canada to finish his university career, Musse has blossomed into a key contributor for Cavalry since joining in 2021.
Previously making an appearance for Canada at the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup, Musse debuted for the senior team of his country of birth in March's 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Musse looked like the best attacking player on the pitch for Somalia as they surprised Guinea in a 0-0 draw before losing 0-2 at Botswana.
Musse and Cavalary FC will be at home next Saturday when they host Pacific FC. They are 4th on the eight-team table with seven points from five matches.
