In an official statement, South African club Phezulu FC has confirmed with deep sadness that three of their players were involved in a tragic motor vehicle accident on February 16, 2025, on the R580 while traveling from Secunda to Evander.

The Mpumalanga province club, who compete in South Africa's third tier ABC Motsepe League (SAFA Second Division), announced with heavy hearts that Siyabonga Zulu and Nhlanhla Masina have passed away due to injuries sustained in the collision.

According to the club’s official statement, the three players—Mosadi, Zulu, and Masina—were in one vehicle heading toward Evander after a match to drop off Masina at his residence.

Their vehicle was struck by a double-cab van that was driving on the wrong lane of the double-carriage road. The collision caused the players’ car to come to a complete stop.

The impact resulted in injuries, and tragically, Zulu and Masina were declared deceased on the scene. Thabo Mosadi survived the accident and is currently receiving medical care.

Phezulu FC has assured that they are in close contact with the medical team and will provide updates on his condition as appropriate.

“This is a devastating loss for our club, the families of the deceased, and the entire football community,” the statement read.

“Zulu and Masina were not only talented athletes but also incredible individuals who brought passion and dedication to the game. Their impact on and off the field will never be forgotten.”

The club has requested privacy for the grieving families and stated that further details regarding memorial arrangements will be shared in due course. Phezulu FC also confirmed that they will provide all necessary support, including counseling, for teammates and staff affected by the loss.
