Vipers SC have been dealt a significant blow ahead of their high-stakes clash with rivals KCCA FC in the 2025 Stanbic Uganda Cup final, scheduled for May 31 at the newly built Kadiba Stadium.
The StarTimes Uganda Premier League champions will be without their influential center-back Hillary Mukundane, who is ruled out due to suspension. Mukundane accumulated one too many yellow cards, with the decisive caution coming in the tense semifinal return leg against Kitara FC in Butema.
The defender was one of three Vipers players walking a disciplinary tightrope heading into that fixture, alongside midfielders Karim Watambala and Marvin Youngman. While the duo managed to keep their discipline intact, Mukundane’s booking proved costly.
His suspension presents a selection dilemma for coaches John Luyinda and Fred Muhumuza, who must now rethink their defensive setup for arguably the biggest match on Uganda’s football calendar.
Livingstone Mulondo and Rogers Torach are now tipped to form the central pairing at the heart of the Venoms’ backline. With the chance to secure a domestic double on the line, Vipers will be banking on their remaining defenders to step up and deliver a solid performance in Mukundane’s absence.
