South Africa top flight side Chippa United have agreed to part ways with Nigeria goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali following a review of the Super Eagles’ request to leave the club.
The 2025 Africa Cup bronze medalists submitted a request to leave the club with the Chilli Boys agreeing to grant the wish of the Port Harcourt born player, bringing an end to a four-year spell.

A statement by the club read: “Chippa United Football Club confirms that Stanley Nwabali has formally submitted a request to depart the club. After a careful consideration, the club has agreed to grant his release,” part of the statement read.
“We would like to sincerely thank Stanley Nwabali for the years of service, commitment, and professionalism he has shown during his time at Chippa United Football Club.His contribution to the club will always be appreciated.
“The club wishes Stanley every success I the next chapter of his career and in all his future endeavours.”
Nwabali signed for Chippa 2022 from Nigeria outfit Katsina United going on to become the clubs safest pair of hands in the Betway Premiership.
He made 76 appearances across all competitions and recorded 25 clean sheets playing an important role in Nigeria’s third place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Chippa United must now comb the transfer market for a suitable replacement as they seek to battle out of the 14th position on the Betway Premiership table with 15 points from 20 league games.

The move brings an end to Nwabali’s four-year spell at the Gqeberha-based club, during which he established himself as one of the most reliable goalkeepers in the Betway Premiership.
In an official statement released by the club, Chippa United confirmed that Stanley Nwabali had requested to depart and that the club had agreed to his release after careful consideration.
“Chippa United Football Club confirms that Stanley Nwabali has formally submitted a request to depart the club. After careful consideration, the club has agreed to grant his release,” the statement read.
The club also paid tribute to the goalkeeper’s professionalism and dedication during his time at the club, thanking him for his service and wishing him well in the next phase of his career.
Stanley Nwabali joined Chippa United in 2022 from Nigerian side Katsina United. At the time, his arrival attracted little fanfare, but he quickly grew into one of the most dependable players in the squad.
Over the course of his stay, Nwabali made 76 appearances across all competitions, registering 25 clean sheets. His consistency between the posts earned him recognition as the club’s “safest pair of hands” and helped Chippa United survive several difficult spells in the league.
