“Stanley Nwabali must make the best career decision” – Shorunmu

Former Nigeria goalkeeper, Ike Shorunmu has urged current Super Eagles safest pair of hands, Stanley Nwabali to decide his future amidst the several offers.

Nwabali who plies his trade with Chippa United, has recently been linked with Morocco Botola League giants Raja Club Athletic and other South Africa Betway Premiership sides.

He has previously been linked with a move to Saudi Pro League side, Al Ettifaq and English club, Queens Park Rangers after a swashbuckling performance at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Shorunmu, who had a glittering career at Turkey clubs, Besiktas, Samsunspor and Swiss outfit FC Zurich says, the 29-year-old Nwabali has to decide which club best fits his future.

“Ultimately, it is up to Stanley to decide what he wants from his life and his football career. He is a fantastic goalkeeper with the quality to succeed anywhere,” Shorunmu said to Footy Africa.

“It’s a new environment, different from what he’s used to in South Africa. The club clearly believes in him, and it is now up to Stanley to prove himself again.”

Nwabali’s decision will be hinged on first team action as he looks to retain his status as Nigeria’s number one goalkeeper. Any slip in his decision will negatively impact his national team career with Udinese shot stopper Maduka Okoye lurking around for the first choice spot.

Nwabali rose to prominence at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria’s Super Eagles where they lost the finals to hosts Ivory Coast. He was a standout performer for Chippa United in South Africa where he gathered 23 appearances. He is capped 21 times by the three time African champions.
