The country’s football federation confirmed the departure of the 57-year-old Frenchman who joined the islanders on October 2, 2023.
“The Comoros Football Federation (FFC) informs the national and international public of the end of its collaboration with the national team coach, Mr. Stefano Cusin, effective March 1, 2026,” reads part of the statement.
FFC earlier hinted on a possible renewal but ended up making the U-turn for reasons that have not been explained in a statement.
“Appointed head coach of the Coelacanths on October 2, 2023, Mr. Stefano Cusin will be remembered for his professionalism, exemplary conduct, and unwavering commitment to Comorian football,” adds the statement.
The Canada-born Cusin has left his role two months after taking charge of the islanders at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Morocco.
The Comoros federation acknowledged the performance of the coach at the tournament where they drew -0-0 against Mali and Mali and lost 2-0.
“Under his leadership, our national team confirmed its progress on the continental and international stage,” the coach added.
“His hard work and rigour notably enabled the Comoros to participate in their second Africa Cup of Nations, organized in Morocco in December 2025 and January 2026.
His tenure will also be remembered for a remarkable performance in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.”
