Werder Bremen manager Horst Steffen has explained what Nigeria forward Victor Boniface will bring to the squad as they prepare to take on Borussia Mönchengladbach in a Bundesliga fixture at Borussia-Park on Sunday.
The Super Eagles forward joined Werder Bremen on a season-long loan from fellow Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, during the last day of the summer transfer window.
Ahead of what is likely to be his debut for Bremen, Steffen praised the Super Eagle, who is yet to play a competitive game this season, to raise the level of his new side.
“Victor is well-received and likeable. He will certainly raise our level, and he’s improving every day. I’m very optimistic that he’ll get his playing time. He’ll definitely be on the bus to Gladbach. We’ll see how much he’ll play,” Steffen told the media.
On Boniface settling in well alongside other new signings, Steffen said: “It was certainly helpful for their integration. They settled in very quickly, and the boys feel at home. Of course, it helps to have someone at their side who can show them everything off the pitch, too. They had a great time in Belgium, and they felt tremendous respect for each other.”
In a recent interview, Boniface was asked why he left Leverkusen, he responded: “It’s football, you know… […] Anything can happen, you can be somewhere one year, to years or you can leave the next day. It doesn’t change the fact that I have big respect for them and they also for me. It’s football, things happen.”
Last season at Leverkusen, Boniface scored eight Bundesliga goals, from 19 matches and provided one assist.
