Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker has described Friday afternoon’s game against Kaizer Chiefs as ‘a special occasion’ that the Western Cape Town side must utilize fully.
Barker said his players are fresh and ready for the Betway Premiership match at Athlone Stadium while looking forward to climbing up the ladder.
“We are excited and also looking forward to the opportunity. It has been a while since we played midweek. We are looking forward to the game, it is a nice and refreshing mood in camp and preparations are going well,” he said.
The coach has since urged his players to right the wrongs that led to the 2-1 loss to Chiefs in a first-round match on January 28, 2025.
Barker said: “Playing Chiefs is always a special occasion and a great opportunity for us to get the maximum points and to continue getting ourselves up the log table where we want to be.”
He noted that they lost to Chiefs because they were playing away but now Stellenbosch has no excuse as they are at home.
“We recently played Chiefs away. Unfortunately, we didn't get the results we wanted. [Now] it is our home game and responsibility to get maximum points that would put us in a strong position with a couple of games in hand.”
Stellenbosch are coming from a one-all draw with Sekhukhune United while Chiefs also sharing the spoils at 2-2 with AmaZulu last Sunday.
