Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker has confirmed the signing of two new players, while also revealing the departure of midfielder Sihle Nduli, who is set to join Orlando Pirates.

Addressing the media after Stellenbosch's final game of the season against Cape Town City on Saturday, Barker announced the acquisition of SA U-20 AFCON winner Siviwe Nkwali and second-tier league top goalscorer Muzomuhle Khanyi.

The draw against Cape Town City secured Stellenbosch FC's qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup for the second consecutive season. This continued continental participation, alongside their deep runs in this season's MTN8 (finalists), Nedbank Cup (quarter-finalists), and CAF Confed Cup (semi-finalists), has highlighted the need for a deeper squad.

As a result of the gained valuable experience from their demanding schedule this past season, Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker confirmed they're already beefing up the squad. He stated that defender Siviwe Nkwali has joined Stellies from Cape Town Spurs, an U-20 AFCON winner from the tournament hosted in Egypt.

Also joining the ranks is Khanyi, who was the top goalscorer in the Motsepe Foundation Championship with 18 goals for Hungry Lions.

Meanwhile, Barker also confirmed the departure of midfielder Sihle Nduli. The 29-year-old, who captained the team against the Citizens at Cape Town Stadium, has been heavily linked with a move to Pirates.

“We are a team that is proactive. You may have seen in the news recently, we have already signed Nkwali from Cape Town Spurs and Muzi from Hungry Lions,” said Barker. “At this stage, there are obviously a couple of players for whom we won’t be renewing contracts. Obviously, the one who is leaving is Sihle Nduli.

“Personally, I want to thank him [Nduli] for the person and the player and the passion that he has shown to this club, and we are happy for him that he is moving on. That is one that we are aware of. Otherwise, the rest we are just looking at positions that we need to strengthen.”
