Stellenbosch FC have announced the departure of their defender, Ismael Toure, who has completed a move to UAE top-division side Baniyas Club. Toure will join the Middle Eastern club for the upcoming 2025/26 season.

Toure has been a cornerstone of the Stellies’ defence under head coach Steve Barker since joining from Marumo Gallants in July 2023. During his two seasons with the Winelands side, the highly-rated defender made 76 appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals and providing two assists.

His impact was instrumental in Stellenbosch’s historic 2023 Carling Knockout Cup victory, their maiden trophy in South African top-flight football. Toure famously found the back of the net in the final against TS Galaxy, a match Stellenbosch went on to win 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

The 27-year-old Ivorian also played a crucial role in Stellenbosch reaching the MTN8 final in October 2024, where they ultimately fell 3-1 to Orlando Pirates at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Toure formed a formidable defensive partnership with Thabo Moloisane, which was key to Stellenbosch finishing third in the league table and reaching the CAF Confederation Cup semi-final last season.

“Stellenbosch Football Club can confirm that defender Ismaël Touré has completed a permanent transfer to UAE Pro League side Baniyas,” the club confirmed on Saturday.

“Everyone at Stellenbosch FC would like to thank Ismaël for his service to the club and wish him well as he embarks on the next chapter of his career in the United Arab Emirates.”
