South Africa’s Stellenbosch FC have faced a challenge ahead of their Sunday’s 2025-2026 CAF Confederation Cup assignment.
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) side is eager to return to the continental cup fixtures after the FIFA window for international games.
In a season when Steve Barker’s men have struggled domestically, playing in the Confederation Cup has provided them with the much-needed solace.
Stellenbosch return from the international break confronted by the sad reality that they really face the threat of relegation from the Betway Premiership.
The Stellies lie second from the bottom of the 18-member log table with just two league wins from 12 games while registering seven defeats and three draws.
Such statistics are hardly encouraging for a team that was so good weeks ago it reached the MTN8 final and made a big impression in Africa after getting to the 2024-2025 Confederation Cup semi-finals.
This season, Barker’s men have built on their last season’s showing in the continental cup, as they navigated their way past the preliminary rounds to make it into the group stages.
However, Stellenbosch have announced that they will not be able to host their Confederation Cup match against Congolese side AS Otohô in the Western Cape due to a lack of match venues.
“Stellenbosch FC will travel to New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Sunday, 23 November, to take on Congolese side AS Otohô in the opening match of the Club’s 2025-26 CAF Confederation Cup Group C campaign,” reads the club’s statement.
“The fixture has been moved outside of the Western Cape due to the unavailability of DHL Stadium in Cape Town. Our traditional home, Danie Craven Stadium, and neighbouring Athlone Stadium, are similarly unavailable as they do not meet CAF requirements.”
The game will kick off at 15H00 Southern African time, and tickets are available for R40.00 from Webtickets and Pick ‘n Pay outlets.
