After their good run came on to an end in the semi-final stage, Stellenbosch forward Devon Titus has promised to help the South African club clinch another ticket to next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
The Stellies enjoyed a good run in this season’s competition but it came to a halt after they lost 1-0 on aggregate to Simba SC of Tanzania. The Msimbazi Reds secured a 1-0 cushion from the first leg semi-final clash before they snatched a 0-0 draw in the away return leg.
“Hopefully, we can finish third. We will give it our all to get that third spot because we want to play continental football again next season,'' Titus said as quoted by Sowetan.
“This group of players has been resilient. We once went to Morocco and lost 5-0 to Barkane [in their last Group B fixture of the Confed Cup campaign in January] and when we returned to SA, we beat AmaZulu 5-0 [in the league four days later], which showed how resilient this team is. Hopefully, we can use our Confed Cup experience to push hard domestically.”
On his future if he leaves Stellenbosch, Titus said: “I aspire to go overseas and play at the highest level and represent Stellenbosch because they've given me everything, so I just want to repay that. Everyone knows that going overseas is my goal as any youngster.”
Stellenbosch started their quest to finish third in the Betway Premiership with a 1-0 win against Chippa United at Danie Craven Stadium on Wednesday. The win kept the Stellies fourth on the table with 41 points, three fewer than third-placed Sekhukhune United.
