Ghana forward Stephen Amankona has reacted positively to his national team snub despite being in some fine form for club side, Berekum Chelsea.
Amankona has won the Ghana Premier League top scorer’s award for two consecutive campaigns scoring 19 times in the 2023/24 and 15 goals in the 2024/25 seasons but is yet to make a full Black Stars debut.
The 25-year-old was overlooked by Ghana coach Otto Addo for Kotoko striker, Kwame Opoku as the Black Stars took third place at the 2025 Unity Cup in London after beating Trinidad and Tobago 4-0.
Stephen Amankona said: “It’s about time, if God wills, I will be available [to play for the national team]. If you are invited you just have to give off your best.
“If the opportunity arises, I will give my very best to the national team. Ghana has very good players and there a lot of them so when the time comes for you to play, your star will definitely shine.”
The former Asante Kotoko attacker played 26 times, scoring 15 times for Berekum Chelsea who finished in 12th on the league table on 44 points.
