Ugandan midfield gem Steven Sserwadda is rediscovering his spark and confidence in the United States, opening up about a rejuvenating loan spell at Connecticut United FC (CT United) where he has quickly become a key figure.

On loan from New York Red Bulls II, Sserwadda has featured in most matches so far this season, underlining his growing importance in the squad.

Alongside fellow Ugandan Ibrahim Kasule, the midfielder is flying the national flag high while embracing a fresh football environment.

Reflecting on his journey so far, Sserwadda revealed to Pan-Africa Football how much the move has reignited his love for the game after a demanding spell previously.

“So far it’s a good experience getting back to the field after a long season with Red Bull and I feel so good here playing with grown ups. We are still improving some few things here and there but we shall keep going.”

The former Uganda Hippos player has slotted seamlessly into central midfield, his preferred role and it’s a position where he feels most expressive and impactful.

“My target this season is to play as much as I can in a position I feel comfortable playing and that is central midfield. I am so happy that I play in that role here. It’s a good team and environment.”

Beyond minutes on the pitch, Sserwadda highlighted the welcoming culture at CT United, crediting teammates and staff for supporting his development both on and off the field.

“Everyone is welcoming and they are trying to help me with everything that I need in my game and to improve on my game as well as my career.”

Founded in 2024, Connecticut United FC is one of the newest independent clubs in MLS NEXT Pro, a rapidly growing league launched in 2022 to bridge the gap between youth development and top-tier professional football in North America.

The club has already made strides in connecting with fans across the state while nurturing talent through its unique free youth academy.

For Sserwadda, this chapter is more than just game time, it’s a stepping stone. With consistent performances and a clear vision in midfield, the Ugandan international is steadily building momentum in a league designed to shape the future stars of the game.

And if his current form is anything to go by, this could just be the beginning of something special.
