Sudan’s Al-Merrikh to compete in Libyan Premier League next season

Sudanese giants Al-Merrikh SC have officially received approval to participate in the 2025–26 Libyan Premier League, the club announced.

The decision comes after the Sudan Football Association sent formal consent to the Libyan Football Federation, allowing Al-Merrikh to take part in next season’s competition without affecting their participation in the Sudanese Premier League, which is set to start in January 2026.

The Libyan Premier league is scheduled to kick off on October 31, featuring 32 teams from across the country.

Al-Merrikh’s temporary participation abroad follows the ongoing suspension of domestic football in Sudan due to the conflict in the country. Last season, both Al-Merrikh and Al-Hilal Omdurman competed in the Mauritanian league under similar circumstances.

The Sudanese giants were recently eliminated from the CAF Champions League preliminary round by Saint-Éloi Lupopo of DR Congo, few days ago. They lost 1-0 on aggregate.
