Former Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, has embarked on a new chapter in his football career after landing a role with the International Football Association Board (IFAB).
Oliseh confirmed announcement by himself on his official X (formerly Twitter) page on Monday. The former Super Eagles captain expressed his immense joy and honour.
“Thrilled to announce my appointment to the International Football Association Board (IFAB)! IFAB is the global guardian of football’s laws, responsible for determining the laws of football, shaping the beautiful game for players and fans worldwide. Honored to contribute to its mission!”
Oliseh’s inclusion in IFAB’s Football Advisory Panel carries profound importance. IFAB is the sole official body with the authority to write, review, and interpret the Laws of the Game, making decisions that impact every level of football, from grassroots to the World Cup final. This includes critical areas such as offside, VAR implementation, handball regulations, and measures against time-wasting.
For Nigerian and African football, this appointment is a monumental achievement. It positions a respected African voice within an elite group that has a direct say in how the game evolves.
His appointment to the IFAB board will see the former Dortmund and Juventus midfielder work with some of football’s most influential figures, including legendary Arsenal boss Arsène Wenger.
Wenger sits on the Football and Technical Advisory Panels and has previously worked with Oliseh within FIFA’s technical study group in recent years.
