Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has issued a direct plea to the club’s supporters to uphold the team’s values and commitment, even as the team bounces back from a disappointing cup exit.
Cardoso’s message came moments after the Brazilians secured an emphatic 5-1 away win against Remo Stars in the CAF Champions League, a crucial result that provided respite after their elimination from the Carling Knockout Cup.
The coach stressed that adherence to the club’s identity—symbolised by the phrase ‘Ubuntu Botho’ on their shirt—is mandatory for everyone associated with Sundowns, including the fans.
“Those are the values that should regulate Mamelodi Sundowns fans all the moment,” Cardoso insisted, specifying the need for “commitment, respect, and support.”
Acknowledging the recent low point, Cardoso reassured the fanbase that the team would continue to show resilience and “character in the most difficult moments.”
“That’s what people should expect and Mamelodi Sundowns fans family should expect from the coach and from the players,” he promised. “It’s the big respect for the club, history, tradition and level so that we can lift it and keep it high.”
In short, the Champions League triumph was a strong step forward, but the coach’s focus remains on maintaining a united front both on the pitch and in the stands.
