Mamelodi Sundowns have launched investigations on their ladies team coach Jerry Shabalala who is accused of improper sexual conduct.
The South African team has released a statement that it has received reports that several women have made allegations against Shabalala. Sundowns has since said it had engaged a top law firm, Bowmans, to investigate the allegations.
“Mamelodi Sundowns views these allegations in a very serious light and has appointed a top law firm, Bowmans, to investigate these allegations and to report to the Board as soon as possible,” the statement reads.
“Sundowns has, in the interim, put coach Jerry Tshabalala on special leave pending the outcome of the investigation. This is not done to pre-empt the outcome of the investigation, but to ensure that the investigation can proceed expeditiously and protect the rights of all parties.”
The SAFA Women's League champions have since promised to take action on the coach once the investigations prove the allegations true.
“In the event that the investigation establishes facts that warrant action, the Board will immediately take such steps as are appropriate. Mamelodi Sundowns will in due course make announcements on the findings of the investigation and the action to be taken,” the statement adds.
The Tembisa-born coach has led Sundowns Ladies to multiple silverware, including two CAF Champions League titles, two COSAFA Championships and five Hollywoodbets Super League gold medals.
