Mamelodi Sundowns’ Ladies midfielder Katleho Molebana has stressed the need for the club to regain its winning momentum in South Africa’s elite women’s league.
Malebana said the team’s form in the Hollywoodbets Super League would be crucial going into the CAF Women’s Champions League lCosafa Qualifiers.
Her remarks follow last weekend’s one-all draw against University of the Western Cape FC (UWC).
“We understand the importance of getting back to winning ways as quickly as possible,” she told the club’s media
“Momentum plays a crucial role, and we are all aware of the high standard we have set for ourselves. One draw does not change our ambitions—in fact, it has only added more fuel to the fire. Everyone is eager to respond in the right way and to show our quality by getting back to winning immediately.”
Molebane’s team mate Noxolo Cesane also spoke about Wednesday’s match against the University of Pretoria (UP), saying they hope to return to winning ways.
“…You can see it in how we have approached our preparations. Every aspect of our game is being carefully considered, and we are leaving nothing to chance..,” she said.
The defending champions were drawn in a tough Group A of the Champions League qualifiers, alongside Ntopwa Ladies of Malawi, Zesco Ndola Girls (Zambia) and Namibia’s Beauties FC. The qualifiers are scheduled for South Africa from 22 to 31 August 2025.
Despite getting the reality check from the result against the UWC, the holders still lead the Super League standings.
Sundowns Ladies and their UP counterparts will face off at Lucas Moripe Stadium. Kick-off is at 18:00. The match will be broadcast live on SABC Sport.
