The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, hosted by the United States, saw the four African clubs pocket millions of dollars in participation fees.
Mamelodi Sundowns, Al Ahly, Espérance de Tunis, and Wydad Casablanca all failed to progress to the Round of 16, exiting the tournament at the group stage.

They defeated Ulsan of South Korea, and their high-scoring 4–3 loss to Borussia Dortmund earned them praise across the globe.
The Egyptian side, Al Ahly, had a disappointing Club World Cup. The Cairo giants received a prize of $11.55 million after finishing fourth in their group with two points.
Tunisian champions Espérance earned $11.55 million after winning one and losing two games. Moroccan club Wydad received $9.55 million.
