Mamelodi Sundowns utility player Thapelo Morena is beaming with confidence that the South African club will be up to the task when they take on Fluminense in their final Group F fixture at the FIFA Club World Cup on Wednesday.
The South African champions will face the Brazilians, seeking a win to qualify for the knockout stages. After winning their group opener 1-0 against Ulsan HD, Sundowns suffered a 4-3 defeat against Bundesliga team Borussia Dortmund in their second match at the TQL Stadium in Cincinnati on Saturday.
Ahead of their third fixture at Hard Rock Stadium on Wednesday, Morena is confident that Sundowns will pull off and register a positive result if they go ahead and fix their few errors against Dortmund.
“We're going to give our all [against Fluminense] and try to convert the chances we create – some of us watched their games, and to be honest, we go into each game as it comes, so now our focus changes to them,” said Morena, as quoted by SABC Sports.
“We just need to review our games against Dortmund and fix what we need to fix for the next game. I think it's something that we thrive on and we're going to do very well – we're going to give our best, especially in this [game] because it's the game that will determine everything for us.”
He concluded: “Most of all, when you come to a tournament like this, your first game is crucial, and your second game is where you get stable. But, to be honest, with us, it's what we had to give from the first whistle because we knew the quality we were playing against – any chance they got they were going to bury.”
Fluminense are top of Group F following their 4-2 victory against Ulsan HD and 0-0 draw against Dortmund.
