Mamelodi Sundowns continue to reign supreme in South African football, with the club's performances being recognised in the Betway Premiership Monthly Awards for May.
In the month of May, the Tshwane giants celebrated a clean sweep, with both their coach, Miguel Cardoso and a key player, Lucas Ribeiro Costa, receiving monthly honours for the third time in the 2024/25 season.
Cardoso and Ribeiro Costa again proved their value at Sundowns, winning the Betway Premiership Coach and Player of the Month awards.
Cardoso's tactical brilliance led Sundowns to a flawless May, winning all five of their Betway Premiership matches. This perfect run saw the Tshwane giants clinch their eighth consecutive Premiership title.
The Portuguese coach beat strong contenders, including Richards Bay FC's Ronnie Gabriel and former Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro, for the Coach of the Month award.
Meanwhile, Ribeiro Costa maintained his sensational form, proving to be a force in Sundowns' attack. The Brazilian maestro netted three goals in May, including one in their 3-0 victory over Stellenbosch FC and a stunning brace against Magesi FC in Sundowns' final of the season in the league.
Ribeiro Costa's outstanding performances earned him the Player of the Month award, ahead of talented teammates like Iqraam Rayners and Marcello Allende.
Adding to his accolades, Costa also claimed the Betway Premiership Goal of the Month award – his third of the season – for a beautifully executed strike against Magesi FC in their last league match.
