Portugal exit looms? Agent provides update on Sundowns star’s European stint

Mamelodi Sundowns loanee Kobamelo Kodisang is on the verge of a surprise return to South Africa, with his loan spell at Portuguese side AVS Futebol SAD set to be terminated prematurely.

The 26-year-old’s high-profile move back to Europe has been hampered by instability at the newly-promoted club. Despite an impressive track record in Portugal—notably helping Moreirense to a top-six finish previously—Kodisang has struggled for consistency in an environment that has already seen two coaching changes this season.

His representative, Mike Makaab of Pro Sport International, confirmed that the agency is actively working to bring the attacker back home to salvage his season.

“The likelihood is that his loan spell will be shortened and he will be back in SA,” Makaab revealed during an interview on Gagasi FM. “When you’re in an unstable environment, and you’re not getting game time, you’ve got to do something about it. As an agency, we have to intervene. That’s the reason for his coming home.”

Kodisang has managed only five appearances and one goal during his stint with AVS. Makaab noted that while the initial “project” at the Portuguese club was ambitious, the results on the pitch have been “horrible,” leaving the player sidelined.

While a return to the Betway Premiership seems certain, his next destination remains a mystery. Kodisang is still a Sundowns player, but it remains to be seen if he will be integrated back into Manqoba Mngqithi’s squad or loaned elsewhere domestically.

“It’s early stages,” Makaab added. “We’re still trying to finalise the termination of the loan. It’s complicated, but we’re finalising that.”
